Draw after 7-hour marathon!

Everyone else went already to bed in The Caleta Hotel Gibraltar, but Judit was still fighting with her English opponent. The seven-hour heroic battle went all the way to the 82nd move, only the two kings remaining on the board. What a fighting spirit. JP lead the black pieces against 2603 Elo-point rated David Howell. The Englishman did obviously go after getting a prestigious scalp, that of Judit’s. JP could have easily agree in a draw at some points of the combinations. But that is not her style. The marathon battle went over seven hours at the end. The draw means after 3 rounds Judit has 2.5 points at the strongest open chess tournament ever.
“It was a crazy game with a fair result at the end! We played till the last bit of chance of winning! I definitely need some rest now. “ – said Judit after the game.
